'The Calming of the Storm'
Mannofield Parish Church, Aberdeen
2.2m x 5.3m
The overall theme is 'The calming of the storm' from the Gospel of St. Mark. The central image in the window is the anchor, symbol of hope and faith, and of the Boy's Brigade to whom the window is dedicated. The sea is the 'sea of life' which has to be crossed, and the boats symbolise the church, in which the faithful find salvation. The nets tell a parable: when we cast our nets upon the waters of life we have to accept what is returned to us. Sometimes the net will be empty, but we must have faith in providence. Sometimes the net will be full of stones, but faith will ease the burden. Sometimes the net will be torn, but faith will help us mend it. Sometimes the net will be full of fishes, our reward for leading a Christian life. This window was awarded a Saltire Society Commendation, and was runner up in the Arts in Architecture Category.
