'Jesus Be The Centre'

St. Columbas' Church, Darlington.

1.4m x 2.8m

This window was inspired by the hymn 'Jesus be the centre'. Images suggested by the lyrics (water, fire, music, wind)have been interwoven with symbols relating to the history and topography of Darlington, and the lore and legend of St. Hilda and St. Columba. Green is the colour of new growth, and the green leaves at the bottom symbolise how a 'new' Darlington of parks and open areas has grown to replace its industrial past. The oak leaf is a symbol for St. Columba and here the leaves evolve into hands at prayer, recalling the church's motto 'St. Columba's people are praying people'.
